member news - Chinese national cancer week draws huge crowds |
The Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA), a member of UICC, hosted their 15th annual Chinese National Cancer Week and nearly one-hundred thousand people in China attended. Since 1994, the CACA has worked to raise the awareness of cancer prevention, by providing free consultation services and delivering free lectures. The event was held in Guangzhou, one of the most developed economic cities in China and drew lots of support from local Anti-Cancer Associations.

HPV testing plays crucial role in cervical cancer prevention |

With the right test, a single round of screening can decrease the risk
of death from cervical cancer by more than 50%, according to an
exciting new study completed on HPV screening in India which was
published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Day 3 - Brisbane, Australia: Reach to Recovery International has announced that Taiwan has been chosen as the host nation for the 16th Reach to Recovery International Breast Cancer Support Conference in 2011. The announcement was made by President of Reach to Recovery International, Ann Steyn and Chairman of the 15th Reach to Recovery International conference organising committee, Professor Jeff Dunn, at a gala reception in Brisbane last night.

Cricketers get skin cancer tests |
|
All of the Professional Cricketers Association's members will be screened for skin cancer for the first time. According to a BBC report, the union has organized the programme after
one in seven county players were referred to specialists when potential
melanomas were found during check-ups.
Although 15% of those screened so far will be given further tests, it is hoped most will be given the all-clear. Several Australian players, including Worcestershire's Ashley Noffke, have had melanomas removed in recent years.

Science, Synergy, and Success - 100th Annual meeting of AACR |
The American Association of Cancer Research (AACR) 100th Annual Meeting 2009, recently took place in Denver, United States with the theme of "Science, Synergy, and Success." AACR President Raymond N. DuBois, M.D., Ph.D., hosted the Opening
Ceremony which began with a multimedia experience on "100 Years of
Science, Synergy, and Success," a video premier of the advancements in
cancer research, and the historical developments of the AACR and its
role as the nucleus of scientific exchange in the cancer arena.
