UICC appoints new Chief Executive Officer

Creating a network of African and Mediterranean leagues against cancer

french_ligue.jpgLa Ligue contre le cancer’, France is organizing its first meeting between the French-speaking African and Mediterranean leagues involved in the fight against cancer on 9-10 October 2009 in Paris. As the original founding member of the UICC La Ligue is committed to doing all it can to fight cancer globally. Within the framework of its international actions, the ‘La Ligue’ aims to mobilize the Francophone cancer community by creating a forum for African and Mediterranean associations to exchange and develop a united network for action, support for patients and their families, as well as health professionals, hospitals and clinics.

World Cancer Declaration receives unprecedented support at the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Summit

dublin_summit_armstrong.jpgIn a resounding show of solidarity, the World Cancer Declaration and the work of the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) were featured at the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Summit organized by the Lance Armstrong Foundation in Dublin, Ireland, on 24-26 August. Over 100,000 signatures of the Declaration collected by the LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Campaign were officially presented to UICC President, Professor David Hill, during a special session organized to highlight significant worldwide support for the World Cancer Declaration, which sets 11 targets to significantly reduce the global cancer burden by 2020.
