Shakira signs the World Cancer Declaration! Print
alg_shakira.jpgMusic superstar Shakira has signed the World Cancer Declaration following her recent visit to Geneva as part of her work for UNICEF as a goodwill ambassador. The 33-year-old Colombian was last week at the headquarters of the International Labour Organization (ILO) where she received a medal from the UN agency for her work to help impoverished children. During a meet-and-greet with the audience, she was presented with the World Cancer Declaration which she took a copy of, and has since officially signed.
The World Cancer Declaration, which is available in 12 languages, is a is a tool to help bring the growing cancer crisis to the attention of government leaders and health policymakers in order to significantly reduce the global cancer burden by 2020. It represents a consensus between civil society, the private sector, foundations, non-governmental organizations, public health experts, government officials and cancer advocates from around the world who are committed to eliminating cancer as a major threat for future generations.
